Exploring the coast North of Perth and the Crook and Brooke show

Wow it’s been ages since we have updated but hopefully you still interested…

Since our last update we headed North of Perth to explore the coast between Perth and Geraldton and due to a couple of weekends of looseness with our wallets in Margaret River and Perth and anticipation of more reckless spending when Jess and Brooke visit us we were keen on living pretty tight. This meant free campsites and innovative meals. In the end we managed to not pay for camping for the whole time we were North of Perth waiting for the girls to arrive and discovered baked bean hamburgers… simply mix baked beans, breadcrumbs, onion, herbs and eggs together in a bowl, mould a burger to your desired size and fry until cooked – Delicious and bloody cheap!

A majority of our free camping (6 nights) was spent camped at Cliff Head North, which is a campsite located on a pretty average beach (most of the coast that we saw between Perth and Geraldton was pretty average) about 35km South of Port Denison. Our time at Cliff Head was spent exploring the surrounding coast and towns such as Pt Denison and Dongara, chilling out loving how we don’t have to work, surfing, and fishing (mainly for tommies, whiting and stingrays).

While on the topic of fishing, Team WA has become involved in a fierce battle with the stingrays of WA. A current tally sees the stingrays with a commanding lead of 8-0 with casualties so far including 2 spears, 2 entire reels of fishing line and numerous rigs. We are confident that we will get off the mark soon.

During our time between Perth and Geraldton we did come across a pretty amazing beach at a place called Sandy Cape, which is where we spent another 2 nights camping for free (this time on the dodge though). While at Sandy Cape we spent our time swimming, snorkeling/spearing, skim boarding, fishing and for the first time on the trip, rafting.

After Sandy Cape we made our way back to Perth over a couple of days and made a few stops at places such as Jurien Bay, Cervantes and ‘The Pinnacles’.

We got to Perth on Thursday arvo and we were all charged and ready for the Crook and Brooke show. But since they weren’t arriving till Saturday we headed for our Perth ‘home’ at Scarborough, got on the beers and goon and headed out to ‘The Indi’; a live music venue in Scarborough… and we must have been pissed and having a good time because during the night Team WA took it upon themselves to buy a round of 15 Black Sambuca shots for our Perth mates. Generous blokes we are!

Due to our good form on Thursday night, Friday was pretty much a write off for us and can be described in a few words – hung-over, tired, movies, KFC, TV and sleep.

Saturday… the day the Crook and Brooke show came to town. After picking them up from the airport we headed south for Margaret River for another night of pure drinking and live music bliss at the Settlers Tavern.

For Sunday we decided to give the girls a tour of a few sites around the area which included the local waves, the Margaret River Cheese Factory and the Margaret River Chocolate Factory. By afternoon we were back in the caravan park where drinks were drank, lunch was cooked, kayaks were hired and got loaded with alcohol (cruisers, a bottle of Johnnie Walker, a 1.25L Jim Beam bottle, 2x1.25L bottles of Coke and some Redbull’s) and we headed off to explore the Margaret River. It would be fair to say that things escalated quickly… we were all pretty pissed and out of control exploring the Margaret River. Amazingly good times!

As it got dark we went back to the caravan park where we were wet, battered and a little bit loud. Not long after getting back to the caravan park and into the cabin we were paid a visit to by the lovely caravan park owner who was confronted with nude bodies, girls screaming (haha) and a very messy cabin. For the first time for the trip, it was looking as if we were going to get kicked out (can’t take those girls anywhere). Luckily we persuaded him to let us stay and it would be fair to say that we pulled our heads in afterwards.

We headed back to Perth on Monday where we stayed at our Perth ‘home’ and dropped the girls off at the airport Tuesday morning, which brought to an end the awesome times that were the Crook and Brooke show. Thanks for the visit girls!

  4. Hey guys, great to get another update on the roadtrip. Bummer that your internet is a little eratic Fussy! You are all certainly getting a move on. 10,000 km's in about 6 weeks, Rapid travel. Don't miss out on anything. I think I'll pass on the burger recipe, I hate baked beans. Had a great Mothers Day. Went to Kersbrook with the folks and had a bonfire etc. Had a great game of Blackjack. No matches or money so found some pistachio's (1 cent) Walnuts (5 cents) and some other random vegies' tomato, avocado, and quava (10 cents) Bit of a giggle. Not sure who won as we kept eating the pistachios. Grant as per usual kept everyone amused with his daredevil 4WDriving up and down grandmas hills. Found a great feed of mushies though.
Keep up the great blogs guys. Miss you all. Love Deb, Pete and crew. xxxxxx
